Last night sleeping with just a fan was not a good nights sleep and then add in the numerous mosquito bites that have almost taken over my feet, I was losing the will to live.
This morning I had my first breakfast in Thailand as I've usually skipped breakfast it consisted of egg, Frankfurt and bread with a bit of cucumber and tomato. I met an English girl (Danielle) who had been staying here for a week now, everyone else at this guesthouse appears to be French or German so she was over the moon to find I was English. She recommended I take a bike (peddle bike) and explore the ruins of Ayutthaya, I took this advice and hired a bike for 50baht and set off through the streets which was really scary to start with as there appears to be no rules of the road, you just go and hope for the best.
The first ruins I visited was the Weat Ratchaburana, I met Gerry here a Latvian who lives in America. Gerry then stuck by me like glue, he was a really friendly guy, probably in his 60s who was travelling for a month too. Gerry ended up renting a bike and we cycled to Wat Maha That another ruins which wasn't as impressive as the first. Our next cycle ride took us to the Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit, which was a temple with a huge gold Buddha taking up most of the space. Gerry sat and meditated whilst I explored and took photos of monks praying (not sure if you are allowed to photograph monks, so I was doing it on the sly!!). After here we walked around the Wat Phra Si Samphet and the Ancient Palace before I said goodbye to Gerry and headed on a little bike ride around the town.
Once back at the guest house I met with Danielle again and we sat outside relaxing. I'm quickly writing this blog before I head off to the train station to get the night train to Chiang Mai. I have a 13hr train journey ahead of me.
