This morning with a very thick head from the cocktails the night before I got up at 6:45am to go to the floating market. What I didn't realise was that it was a 1hr 30min minibus drive there. We arrive and get put in boats and headed down the river (apparently the same boats that James Bond sailed in, in the film 'The Man with the Golden Gun', wouldn't have a clue as I've never watched it). We then swapped boats later down the river and floated through the market. It was bizarre to see all the Thai (mainly women) on their little boats filled with all sorts of goods to sell (and a lot of tac), last of the big spenders here brought some mango for 30p, there was so much of it I was mango-d out by the end. Next we were taken to a horrible animal zoo/farm where there were elephants (chained), monkeys (wearing stupid clothes) and crocodiles (I didn't see the crocodiles), I found a cafe and waited there until time to leave.
Once back at the hostel I sorted my (very heavy) bag and waved down a tuk tuk to the station. Managed to buy a ticket by waving my phone which had the name of the place I was heading to on it. Ticket in hand and standing in the middle of the station obviously looking lost a member of staff pointed me in the direction of my platform. No idea if the train that is sitting there is my train or not I resume my lost look until the train conductor, with a megaphone may I add, starts shouting at me from the train "lady, give me ticket" "lady ticket". I hand my ticket through the train window and he shouts again "come now", as I step on to my 3rd class train full of Thai people, he is talking through his megaphone to the whole train, they are laughing and looking at me. He is clearly taking the piss. He makes a Thai lady move and says to me "sit", awkward moment he's just kicked someone out of her seat and told me to sit. If not everyone was staring before, they are now!!
I write this whilst sitting on the 3rd class train, it's not the most comfortable train I've been on, there is no air conditioning and the train is packed, the temperature is about 33 but thankfully I'm right by the window. I now have an hour and 45 minutes to watch the world or should I say the poverty stricken people of Thailand go by with their shacks for homes basically on the train tracks. There are people walking up and down the tracks, dogs everywhere and if that wasn't bad enough kids playing as we go by. For now I will sit back and try to enjoy the extremely bumpy, squashed, hot ride that would probably be quicker if I walked. Let's say it's not a fast train!!
Arrived in Ayutthaya at 6pm (35mins late, good old Thai Railway Service) with no idea which direction to head in so start off down the road to search for somewhere to stay tonight. Eventually giving up on my own search because I'm to exhausted and hot I ask a tuk tuk driver. He takes me to a place called 'one love' it's basic, but clean for 400baht (£8) for the night I can't complain, especially as I now have my own room for the night.
I head off to see the sights as I'm told the ancient ruins are lit up at night until 9pm... So I get the same tuk tuk guy to drive me round the city for 3hrs, also stopping for a romantic meal for one in a restaurant on the river, through all this my personal chauffeur waits patiently. His chauffeuring for the night cost me 200baht (£4) and I got to see all the sights bargin!!
