Day 13 Picton
Spent last night in double room behind the laundry but that was fine as the machines were turned-off around 8 pm . . . not a brilliant night as the walls were paper thin and we could hear the staff chatting away until midnight, but mustn't complain (why not?). Had a good breakfast in the morning and even better because it was completely free!!! Decided to visit Bob's Outlook (who the hell is bob?) but didn't get there, stopped off at the Marina to have a look at the boats . . . even found one for you Dave, could just see you and Lin with a glass of wine sitting on the aft deck. Spent many hours just people watching, as-you-do. Back to the hostel around 5 p.m. to spend the evening with Hilda & John eating hot chocolate pudding with ice cream . . . free again.
Day 14 Havelock
Set off around 9.30 am for Havelock, on leaving had a couple of climbs with winding narrow roads, luckily not too many lorries passing. Most of the roads meandered around bays and headlands and were very beautiful. Weather very warm when we arrived at the hostel, only a short ride today. Took to the Spa and then down into the town but only a couple of shops and one pub to it's name which we frequented in the evening for a roast. Keith had green mussels for a starter and apparently they were delicious. . . not my taste at all.
Day 15 Nelson
Were away from Havelock by 8.30 a.m with the prospect of a hard days climbing over Rai saddle 247 metres and then Whangamoa 357 metres and then mostly flat straight into Nelson (74k) in total. pretty knackered when we arrived. Fantastic hostel run by Sharon and Mick (Canadian ex Mounted policeman and she a theatre nurse) who are standing in for the owners for several weeks. We ended up having a meal with them (yes Spencer we've heard it all before). Found a Thai take-away across the road and very cheap so no need to cook . . . all the better.
Day 16 Nelson Town Centre
Buskers Festival here today and we spent several hours just watching the gymnastic and trapeze artists performing for everyone. Been getting quite a lot of feedback/advice about our journey and today the owners of the hostel Alan formerly from the Lake District and his wife Piri spent an hour with Keith explaining the weather fronts and where we should be trying to get to before the weather changes down the West Coast. He is a cyclist and we need all the input we can get, it's all new to us. So mostly today we have been listening

mr happy You promised you wouldn't write so much this time. Well whats to say about laundry walls except "scrubbers" you can fill in the rest. Nelson? Was it named after fellatio Nelson. There a town in Lancashire called Nelson very grey and fill with unemployed. Dont suppose NZ is the same. I think the less said about Keiths Green Mussells the better frankly. Piri means hot in Portugese i believe so it must beg the question was she and finally to close you have left the door wide open young Mo I think Keith will need to have a word with you. 'LISTENING' am I replying to the right Keith and Maureen or are there imposters I think we need to be told. tra for a bit its allotment time. Thought I'd better plant sometime for you to scrump on you return.
