Day 56 Lake Tekapo
Paid Erin for another night to continue with the chalet. She was pleased and asked Keith to fix her bike, which he did. . . David and Sabina have also decided to stay for another day as he needs to go to the hot tub as he is suffering from a bad back. Little overcast this morning so time for some washing and up-dating the blog and cleaning the bikes.
Day 57 Tekapo - Fairlie
Short ride today and pretty flat heading in Christchurch direction. Over Burkes Pass entering the high country grasslands of the MacKenzie Basin named after a sheep rustler. Ended up in a Top 10 campsite for the night and off to the Supermarket for provisions for a bar-be-que.
Day 58 Fairlie - Geraldine
Went the scenic route about 72k easy but fast because a lad called David was pushing the pace up until lunchtime at Pleasant Corner. (Blueberry pancakes with maple syrup, ice cream, cream and yogart. . . Ron it was marvelous!!!! Good BBH and the sun has once again appeared.
Day 59 Geraldine to Mt Somers
Pretty uneventful day lost a lot of the great scenery although the cycling has been good with no mountains to climb and the bikes are flying, not too sure about us!!! Got into Mt Somers, no mountain to be seen and no one in the caravan park either, but we are still travelling with our campanions. We all decided to walk over to the Tavern for an evening meal and what a welcome! I don't think the Landlady had smiled for years and her husband was a dead-ringer for Les Patterson including the stained shirt. "Have you made your minds up yet as I've got another eight arriving tonight" said the Landlady whilst putting the condiments on the table. Les did us proud with more chips than you could possibly imagine. Half-way through the meal she removed the condiments for the new customers i.e., the eight she was waiting for, and then proceeded to remove our plates whilst some fo us were still eating. We all wished her well and thanked her very much for her scintillating welcome.
Day 60 IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY Mr. Somers - Glentunnel
Gale force winds all night but we were up early only because David and Sabina could'nt sleep in their tent and the "yodelling" outside the chalet. The first 40k was terrible, raining with strong cross-winds which kept catching the panniers, luckily the next 25k into Glentunnel started to brighten up although the winds were still strong but they ended up being a tail-wind. Decided not to find a Tavern tonight for our evening meal and just bought from the local shop and cook in the camp kitchen. Saying that, Keith and David managed to find a pub for a birthday celebration drink whilst collecting the supplies.
Day 61 Glentunnel - Christchurch
Very cold this morning with ice on the grass. Short day only 60k into Christchurch today. Had last coffee with David and Sabina as they are off to see friends and then over for a short break to Thailand . . . it's been really good cycling with them we have had plenty of laughs. We are staying here tonight and then off to Bank's Peninsula (Akaroa). Delightful BBH once again, one of those large Victorian Houses. Weather really hot this afternoon.
Well you appear to be your "old-self" Ron, hope you and Monique are over your colds? Sorry to hear about the pussycat and your on-going problems with the dry rot up north, but we are pleased that you are not too busy to keep us entertained with your messages.

mr happy Ta for the video, the best bit is that I don't have a sound card in the PC and my lip reading skills are non-existent. Bit disapointed to see you are still smiling though. Being a sad old sod I will probably force myself to access it via the mac. Suffering from Erberts disease I think as an Uncle also passed away the other week. Didn't go to funeral as it was in Hants and I cant say we were close. Don't suppose I have seen him more than 10 times in 60+ years. Only got to hear about it via a distant cousin. Still family is family I suppose. Day 56 already. Surprised you have any legs left or right. Do hurry back for the erections or will you have a poxiy vote. More MP's with snouts in trough yesterday. Eh like you care. Work quiet at the Mo so spending more time on allotment. Got me early spuds in now and Monique is still planting seedings at home. Planning to replace joists over easter so that will be fun. Managed to find a local timber merchant but knowing my luck he will forget to deliver. Hopefully will find some free time to do some strolling, weather permitting. It is easter after all. Monique is almost over loosing our cat and we do have a stupid ginger tom from next door who is delighted to now be let in but cant sus out why theres no food anymore. We almost had a summers day today but fortunately they are forcasting rain for the next 4 days. Something to look forward too. ta for a bit. (Now where did I put that life)
