Wayward Wind Fiji, day four on the Wayward Wind and it finally dried out, the boat that is. Day one and two saw us sailing/motoring to our first anchorage and a heavy rain storm and day two was more of the same no sun at all. Waking on day three there was plenty of sun but the low front had the ocean still rocking and once we left the Blue Lagoon we were rocked by 12-15 foot seas. Turning Joy and I three shades of green and shaking everything loose in the fuel tank we had to make a fuel filter change while under way leaving us stalled in the large seas with only the Jib (small sail on the front of the boat) to keep us front being tossed around too badly but facing the wrong direction for a time.
In no time Aaron our Skipper had squeezed into the motor room to make a quick change. Now this is no small feat in itself as Aaron is 6'5" a former Tight end for the New York Giants and Baltimore Raven. After an injury that retired him from Pro Football he bought this Schooner (Wayward Wind) and sailed the Pacific for 11 years before deciding that Fiji was the place for him. He is a very capable Skipper and quite the Chef too! He has many tales of growing up and playing College football including the Rose Bowl and playing Pro. His stories of the high seas are just as interesting as is his sense of humor.
Inasa is a Fijian who is our deck hand and all around does it all guy. We have enjoyed his company while snorkeling and a visit to the Spitting Caves. The caves are in Sawa-i-Lau island were we anchored the night. Once in the main cave and too get too the second half of the system you have to do a spooky underwater swim through. Once inside we could swim around and enjoy the fresh water in the cave. Doing the swim out the water is lit from the outside and is a real cool swim. Just outside the caves is a great snorkel spot and we spent an extra night here munching Chinese food and watching the moon rise.
After a hot night trying to sleep we raised anchor and headed out. Raise the main sail and the jib! Wait no wind AGAIN! You know either we have to try this during the trade wind season or find someplace that has winds in January and February. So we faked it, motoring and an occasional puff of wind we traveled 30 miles which was most of the day to arrive here between Waya and Wayasewa islands hoping for a great sunset. SO with a Corona and Jimmy Buffet playing we'll hopefully enjoy our first real ocean sunset onboard.
Day 6 comes to an end and we are anchored next to the island from the movie "Castaway" and a 300 million dollar yacht. We stopped at Navadra Island for lunch. Navadra is a connected to the next island by a small sand bar. The snorkeling was excellent and we had a slow pass by a four foot long reef shark. A short motor to Monuriki Island (Tom Hanks Island) and we found a large Yacht here also checking out the island. It sits here now off our stern with all of her lights on looking like New York City. Our time on Wayward Wind grows short as does the years vacation. Pretty soon we'll be 'traveling to cold Korea and back to the United States. Till then we'll just keep enjoying our company onboard and working on some of the best tans we have ever had. Keith and Joy

Northcoasters So I take it you either had high squall driven seas or glass with light breezes. So I just read in the the LA Times that Keith is up for Best Director and Joy for best Actress award and you are planning to stop in LA to walk the red carpet. Loved the pics!
