A flying visit as we were meeting Dom in Koh Phangan on 30th, we arrived in Krabi in the late afternoon of 27th after a hotel taxi pick up at 7.30am (was supposed to be 7am) to the pier in Langkawi to catch a ferry to Satun, Thailand, then taxi/bus transfer to the bus station in Satun, Thailand and a bus to Krabi and tuk tuk to our hostel/hotel! We decided to book a tour around the islands on the 28th some speed sight seeing. It was a great day and got to see a lot. For 1,500 baht we were picked up at 8am and driven to Ao Nang (a lovely but busy beach) then put on a boat with a group of tourists. We saw Chicken Island, stopped off at Bamboo Island. We floated through PhiPhi Lagoon, which reminded me of a smaller, busier but sunnier Milford Sound. We made a short stop at Maya Bay, which was were the film, The Beach was filmed so I was excited. It looked the same but with hundreds of tourists swimming and boats lined up along the shore. We snorkelled by the bay and had lunch on Koh PhiPhi. The islands were beautiful, with beautiful soft sand, dramatic green mountain rocks and turquoise water. Koh PhiPhi had a bustling shopping area with hundreds of stalls selling souvenirs, hippy pants and t-shirts! Neil bought a pair of offensively electric pink but brilliant shorts for 200 baht! We snorkelled in monkey bay in the afternoon and in a cave under the rocks were thousands of little schools of fish! It was incredible swimming amongst them, an odd fish would move and their skin shone like a disco ball! They would create a wall around you and moved away when you swam through them.
Krabi was an ok town, we found the best restaurant with the yummiest food! A clear lime citrus curry with chicken and samtom papaya salad, both eye wateringly spicy yet very tasty. I got to have my favourite sticky rice and it came in the bamboo basket, which I love. We also found a lovely Buddhist temple with elephant statues and man made waterfall! The second night there was a great night market selling clothes, crafts and lots of food! We tried the crispy chinese chive cakes, spring roll and pork sausage (secretly hoping it would taste like a Richmond) and Neil bought what looked like a colourful sweet carrot but it tasted like a sweet root vegetable or cake covered in colourful gelatine.
