We couldn't find any accommodation on Koh Tao online but we were told you should be able to find some once we arrived so we booked the boat. The boat was an hour late so yet again it was Chang time. Once on Koh Tao we got a taxi to Sairee Beach and started the hunt for a place to stay. After a few hostels told us they had no rooms available and seeing a few "no room" signs on other places we went to the travel agents. When I asked if he knew of any accommodation he answered "You ask me very hard question". We searched online but couldn't get through to some of ones the guy phoned. In the end we booked the night ferry to Bangkok. We left our bags at the travel agents and went to explore Koh Tao in the few hours we had. The Lotus Bar on the beach was our first stop. Cushions on the beach with little bamboo tables and the sea nearly at your feet. We watched the long boats bringing people back to shore while having a drink. Dinner and dodgy wifi at Brothers Bar. We had tom yam soup with snapper and pork noodles was all delicious but I nearly died choking on a fresh chilli. It swelled the back of my throat, I couldn't talk and could just about breathe as tears streamed down my face, Neil slapping me on my back as he thought I was dying. Then the waiter brought over a glass of coconut milk, which instantly cooled the back of my throat. I lost my voice for a short time and it took a bit of time to come back. But I survived and spent the rest of the time in Koh Tao walking around the lanes of shops and checking out the bars.
We were picked up from the travel agents at 9pm and brought to the ferry. We didn't realise the boat had beds. Huge dorm rooms with bunk beds so once lights went out we tried to sleep, which was pretty difficult with a belly full of booze on a boat swaying back and forth.
We arrived at Chumporn at 5:30 and got on an air con coach. We had a quick stop in the town and got a huge yummy baguette, which lasted us the 8 hour trip to Bangkok. The coach journey wasn't too bad and pretty comfortable, they even played Hugo in English, which was a massive bonus.
We arrived in Bangkok on a very hot afternoon at 15:00 on the 5th January.
