Manila
Monday morning on our way to Greenhills and in the distant there is a huge black cloud of smoke rising. As we get closer you can see the flames and people surrounding the area as they watch their homes burn to ash. The squatters area was burning fast as their homes are made of cardboard, tin, wood reclaimed scraps. People were trying to save as much as they could. Getting very close to the flames to grab what they could. Families knocked holes into the back of their homes so they could save as many of their belongings as possible. The biggest fire I have ever seen and it was escalating quickly before our eyes.
There was only one small fire engine trying to tackle the flames and not many more insight. When the fire alarm was set off in Auckland within minutes 3 fire engines had arrived and there was no fire.
Truly the saddest thing I have witnessed.
