On route to Wanaka
We spent today travelling through beautiful scenery. Alpine forests and snowy top mountains. We left at 8:30 and our first stop was breakfast at Lake Matheson. On a clear day the mountains are mirrored in the lake. Today it still worked but the skies were white from clouds so the photographs looked black and white. At the cafe Neil and I shared a bacon, egg and sausage butty with a cappuccino each costing $25 eek! The sandwich was very filling so half was perfect and the bread was very brown and came with caramelised onions. The sausages are weird they come with 5 different meats; beef, lamb, chicken, venison and pork so Neil ate my half!
We stopped off and signed a rock and left it on the beach. I wrote "20/10/12 Keira and Neil Kiwi Ex with Lauren,Bridget,Mike and J, Laura,Steph,Rachael,Pete,Gail,Vicky totes Amaze"
We got back on the bus and drove through to a place called Haast for lunch I wasn't too hungry so had an apple and crackers. We passed The Gates of Haast which would kill you if rafted down.
After lunch we drove on and the weather got worse so had a sleeply. Then we stopped off at Lake Hawea which was beautiful and not too far from our final destination.
We arrived in Wanaka about 5pm and as we drove through it looked beautiful like a ski village. I am gutted we can't be here longer. We have an amazing double room with a TV and comfy double bed and ensuite, a perfect room to have a lie in but we are up at 8:30.
We decided to do a wash and get some dinner in New World. Chicken Thai green curry and rice with spinach, asparagus and sweet corn. So good to have lots of vegetables after snacking on s*** on the bus.
