Day 5 - Naples
Our goal of everyone sleeping in failed by 7:15 this morning when we heard talking from the kids room. Oh well. We went to breakfast at the Cabanas and ate on the back deck of the ship with a great view of the harbor, city and a sailboat that looked like a huge pirate ship - an ominous sign of what would transpire later in the evening.
The big kids played in the kids club for a bit while Keely, Whitaker and I walked the track on deck 4 which went around the whole boat - 2.5 laps equaled a mile. Then we picked up the kids and headed into the city of Naples.
In a surprise to no one, the double stroller has become one of the biggest hassles of the trip. Not only is it a bit wide for the narrow European streets. But the two kids who should be walking want to ride and the two kids who should be walking want to be out of it. In Naples, we decided that everyone would walk and Keely would bring the carrier for Whitaker. That way all three of the big kids could complain about their sore legs which started roughly 1 block into our walk. Compared to Pisa and Rome, Naples felt like a big city with the same limited traffic rules.
We navigated our way from the port into the city to Via Tribunali, a road with many restaurants on it. We found our restaurant, Antonio Sorbillo, for pizza. The streets were small and narrow but cars and mopeds and big delivery trucks still squeezed their way through. Everything was decorated in the Naples soccer team colors with banners and streamers strung balcony to balcony. It was quite the festive feeling. Street musicians walked around playing the accordion and the hustle and bustle of the city was exactly what you imagine streets in Italy to be as we wandered our way back to the ship. Ainsley did great and only needed a piggyback ride at the end. Keely was the true hero carrying a hot, sweaty, sleeping baby on her back the entire time.
Back on the ship, we went to the pool. The bigs did the Aqua Duck a few times, Ainsley and Whitaker played in the splash pad area and we all watched part of a movie from the pool deck until it was time to get ready for this evenings theme - Pirates!
The kids quickly changed into their pirate gear and headed up to the atrium to get pirate pictures with Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, Captain Jack Sparrow and Stitch. Liam was exhausted and opted to nap in the room instead of going to dinner. Ainsley didn’t make her food coming out before she fell asleep at the table. And Whitaker was just loud and crazy. So we skipped dessert and headed back to the room so Ainsley could finish her nap.
There were so many events this evening. First, Mickey and the gang had a pirate themed show on the pool deck. The kids were able to sit upfront and learned the five rules of being a pirate until Captain Hook and Mr Smee came along and tried to take over the ship. We dropped Whitaker off at the nursery and then it was down to the theater for a magic show. We grabbed a few more photos because the kids looked so great in their costumes before heading back up to the pool deck for another pirate themed show and fireworks display. We stayed for a few songs at the pirate dance party and then it was time for bed. We loved pirate night!
After the kids were asleep, Keely and I snuck up to the pool deck to watch Pirates of the Caribbean. When it still wasn’t over by 1 am, we realized how silly this idea was and headed to bed! Tomorrow is a day at sea as we head back to Spain for one last stop.
