Day 6 - Sea Day
We told the kids to sleep in today and they slept all the way to 8:15 or so! Odin and I got an extra 15 minutes of sleep while Kevin took anyone that was awake to the buffet for breakfast. We met them upstairs and had a nice time eating on the back of the ship outside looking out over the sea.
We went back to our room to freshen up before our first activity of the day, The Royal Gathering. This was a chance to meet four princesses at once! Ainsley put on her Belle dress and we all went to meet some princesses and take a bunch of pictures. We saw Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine and Tiana. Unfortunately Whit was not feeling the princess vibe and opted to run around for most of it!
After princesses we decided to check out the gift shop and buy a few souvenirs. The kids all picked out a stuffed animal of their favorite character and we also got a pirate Mickey print for Whit’s room. After we had put our purchases in our room it was off to the pool! Since it was a sea day the pool area was packed. I went in the splash pad with the littles while Kevin and the boys played mini-golf on the 13th deck. We ate some lunch and swam a bit, and then decided to enter Whit in the Jack Jack Diaper Dash! We rushed down to the atrium of the ship and they told us it was mainly for crawlers, but since they had so few contestants they’d let him in…but if he walked he was disqualified. We figured it was worth a shot and entered him anyway. He was in the second heat, with Liam at the finish line with a bottle there was nothing stopping him. He got up and ran across the finish line, winning his heat but still getting disqualified for walking 😂
After the Diaper Dash we put Whit in they nursery so he could take a nap while the rest of us got some pool time. We swam and watched Moana on Funnel Vision. After the movie was over they closed the main pools for breaks and safety checks for 10 minutes. We took that time to check out one of the small pools they have for kids that we hadn’t tried before. It is tiny and only 6 inches deep, but the kids still loved playing and splashing around.
In the afternoon we had a surprise for the older three, they all had appointments at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The boys got Prince Eric (from Little Mermaid) costumes complete with swords and shields. Then they got their hair done, Liam with a dashing side sweep and Odin with spikes, of course! The stylists were their “fairy godmothers” making them into princes and dragon slayers. After their hair was styled they got some dragon scales (gold and silver Mickey Mouse confetti) placed in their hair along with fairy dust that helped to ward off dragons in battle. Ainsley wore her Belle dress and was able to select hairstyles and crowns. She picked out a mini-crown that hugged a bun on top of her head. Next she got her nails painted and little bit of makeup. Each kid got a special backpack and Ainsley got to keep the leftover makeup and nail polish too. When they were done they were the cutest princes and princess you could ever imagine! Many people stopped to comment on how great they all looked.
After they were all made up we wanted to get some pictures with some of the characters that were out and about. Kevin was nice enough to wait in line for both Rapunzel and Ariel, and Ainsley loves both of them so much, she always gives them the biggest hugs. We went to get Whit out of the nursery and I tried to keep the kids from ruining their hair and outfits by starting one of the other scavenger hunts. While we were between clues we ran into Princess Jasmine in the hallway and she spent 5-10 minutes just chatting with the kids. Liam told her she was his favorite because she had a pet tiger. So they spent the next 5 minutes trying to make a plan for how to sneak her pet tiger onto the ship. It was so nice that they got that opportunity in a relaxed setting. They had so much fun talking to her.
We tried to snag as many pictures as we could before dinner and then we headed down to the Enchanted Garden. Kevin went in first so that when Ainsley walked in as a princess with her escort of princes and the waitstaff all clapped he could take a video. Dinner was a bit chaotic with a screaming Whitaker (so I brought him back to the nursery a little earlier than planned) and two long bathroom breaks, Kevin and I were barely at the table together! But we made it through and headed upstairs for a couple more pictures before the big live show of the night, Beauty and the Beast. Kevin stood in line for seats (he did that a lot today!!) while we begrudgingly let the kids (Ainsley too!) get a Captain Jack Sparrow sword from the gift shop (these had been coveted for days). We ran those downstairs as the theater doors were opening and people were rushing to find the best seat. Kevin and Liam snagged us some great seats in the 4th or 5th row. The show was a bit choppy because they were trying to fit in all the good stuff in about an hour, but Belle was great and the scene changes were really interesting. They did the cartoon characters like Lumiere, with both a puppet and a human character so that was cool to watch. But my favorite was watching the kids. Ainsley just kept saying it wasn’t Beauty and the Beast because Belle didn’t have her yellow dress on yet. The boys seemed to really get into the songs they knew but covered their ears during any scene where the beast would roar. Overall they gave it the thumbs up!
After the show we took one last picture and listened to some of the music the violinist was playing. The boys headed back to the room and Ainsley and I went to the nursery to collect a sleeping Whitaker. Everyone got to bed around 10:30, so hopefully they’ll sleep in again tomorrow!
