J: Once we got to Can Tho we quickly set off on bike taxis to our home stay destination. We had our big bags that they put between their legs on a semi-automatic Honda, then us on the back and off we went. The drivers didn't care too much for rules of the road, which made it a fun journey, although my guy had to do a large swerve on a dual carriageway when another bike pulled out of junction, and we ended up in the fast lane!
When we got to our destination it was a lovely little home stay place overlooking the river. We were given one of their bedrooms with all their personal belongings around the room which was interesting, they were great hosts though and after I helped them prep dinner for that night which was delicious, they got up at 4am to make us breakfast for our early start!
S: So back on the motor bikes we go, I think my driver must have had a good night on the beer because he smelt of alcohol and keeping in a straight line was clearly hard work for him lol. We arrived at the river at 5am still in the dark and our guide for the day met us. On the journey to the markets he made James an eye patch and sword and a tiara for me out of water coconut leafs. We arrived at the first market that sold every kind of fruit and veg going. Our guide brought us pineapple and a dragon fruit, which were delicious. We brought a Vietnamese coffee from a boatman, which here in Vietnam is really thick strong bitter coffee mixed with condensed milk, which makes a lovely sweet coffee in the end. Next we went down some canals and stopped for photos in front of the rice paddies and eventually for some Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) and went for a wander around the gardens. We learnt pineapples grow on small shrubs like melons, and ate lotus flower seeds, which tasted like almonds. It was a good lesson. We ended up being on the river for around 7 hours and had a wonderful time, although we both had a sneaky nap on the way back as it was so tranquil.
J: We had a few hours before our bus so we ended up wandering the lovely city enjoying iced-tea with the locals while playing games then heading to a nice hotel lobby (above our price range) to use their toilet and ended up abusing their hospitality by using the shower in the toilet and the hand soap as shower gel, and used their Wi-Fi to plan our next day lol.

Victoria Veness I am loving the eye patch and tiara!! Sounds like you are meeting and staying with some friendly people.....not so sure i would have trusted the driver smelling of alcohol though!!
