Lucca was the perfect pit stop. We chose not to go to Pisa because everyone said it was a waste of time. The only thing there is the leaning tower. There's not much more in Lucca except a 2.5 mile wall surrounding the city that was built in the 16 and 17 century. It's also been around since 200 BC. I guess that is note worthy as well. As I am sure you have all noticed by now, the Honeycutt's are not like the Paz's: we do not travel for historical reasons. We mainly go to places for food and wine. What's also worth noting is the graffiti. Yep, people are fng spray painting on structures dating back thousands of years!! What's wrong with people?! No damn pride or respect.
Navigating from CT to the Westin was no problem with the exception of the fist fight Ron almost got into with some Italian guy when he tried to cut in front of him at the toll pay booth.
Our Florence welcoming party was the Ferrari Cavalcade 2013 - 80 teams consisting of the most important Ferrari enthusiasts. I'm not a car person and I was impressed by some of the prancing horses on display. Guys were out there wiping down the cars with cotton balls. We put in for a suite upgrade but were denied, probably because of the cavalcade. We were shown to our room which happened to be quite large with an even bigger terrace offering sweeping views of the city. I can't imagine what a suite is like if this is a "standard" room. Of course Ron took credit and said, "Only the best for my girl!" This is a really old hotel (much like most things here in Italy) with tons of charm and centrally located. We will definitely be staying here again. For the first time in six days we were able to unpack our suit cases and settle in. Once done, we headed to the gym to work out - thank God! Don't worry, I only ran listening to music on my iPad. I put it to the side when I lifted weights and did abdominal work.
We headed to Four d'Aqua for dinner. This is an all seafood restaurant with no menu. The reason being that they do not know what the boats will be bringing in from the sea that day. The chef came out and walked us through what he suggested we order. Mistake number one was to tell him to prepare whatever he wanted. This was not because we were worried about how much it was going to cost but more because of the amount of food served. Wow, by dish four we wanted to tap out. Kind of reminded me of my dining experience at EMP with Sash. Needless to say, it was all truly amazing, especially the shrimp crudo (tasted so sweet) and seafood pasta...not rigatoni but a narrower version. The second mistake of the night was ordering a second bottle of white wine. Wow, that stuff goes to my head. Upon conclusion of the meal, the chef came out and gave us his cell number and told us to call him the next night and he'd take us to his favorite pizza place....have his chef buddy cook for us. You can only imagine how that happened - yes Kats got really friendly come bottle number two, as did Ron since he never drinks white wine. I almost forgot, to start the meal the restaurant asks you to drink a glass of Prosecco in order to cleanse your palate and to end the meal they serve you a champagne glass filled with a drink consisting of lemon sorbet, vodka and Prosecco. We want to serve them at our next party - super yum but could be dangerous. Proven by how hard Ron and I hit the bed. More on Sunday's meat extravaganza later.
