Right - I am now in Hue (the map didn't recognise Hue so I have tried to place it myself, so it may not be spot on, or right at all!)
We caught a sleeper bus from Hanoi at 6.30pm and arrived at around 8.30am. The seats were fully reclined and comfy enough to sleep which was great - apart from the INSANE driver!! I swear in all I had about 12 near death experiences! Maybe not that bad, but, like all over Vietnamese drivers, he was shocking. But we had munchies, books and ipods to get us through so it was fine.
Once we got to Hue (most looking like you would after such a trip, apart from the german girl who got up an hour early do to her makeup, yet got most of it in places it really shouldnt go) we found a hostel that is lonely planet recommended and $3 a night each. I'm sharing with Ema and Laura and it has our own bathroom so pretty much a massive bargain!
After sorting our stuff we went to this little cafe for breakfast - walked in and there was writing all over the walls, cealing, no white space left at all- all messages from backpackers raving about 'Thu'. I now know why, instantly she came out with: 'Ah, England! Diamond Geezer, lovely jubbly, booyakasha!' Fell in love there and then, and fell in love even more when I saw banana pancakes for 15,000 dong = roughly 50p.
We then booked a tour through Thu - motorbikes taking us all around Hue visiting temples, tombs and various other places. Before we did that we went for a spot of shopping which I shall be posting back home soon (included is a lovely scarf for mum, the material here is so gorgeous and so cheap you feel bad trying to haggle!)
The tour was amazing. We went into parts of the town that you would never see, such as small villages in forests etc. I loved it. Held on for der life at first, but slowly realised to chill out a bit as it was pretty safe (helmet included!). The best part of the tour, and probably my highlight so far, was watching the Buddhist Monks praying. Amazing! They bang this sort of drum thing (it's not a drum but hard to explain) and the noise is almost spine chilling. The temples are so beautifully decorated, and fat buddah is just awesome. Makes you think about converting, but as our tour guide said: "No woman no cry, no vodka I die!"
Some of the Bhuddists were as young as 5, and very cute. The temple holds a lot of orphans and we saw them sleeping which was verrrry cute. Can't wait to upload pics but this connection is far too slow.
About to go for a nap before another cheap meal then off at 2pm to Hoi An, which I'm really looking forward to. Lots of love to all, miss everyone lots. Can't believe I missed out on Easter Sunday -I want my eggs when I get back!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
