Currently in Hervey Bay which is the stop off before continuing onto Fraser Island..
Anyway..so the last day in Byron was awesome, had the best night at Cheeky Monkeys after spending the day boogie boarding (which was SOOO awesome and we were doing it right by a shipwreck which made it even cooler). The next day we had to get the bus at 12, so it was time to drag ourselves out of bed to check out by 10am, then find some good ol' fatty food! There is an amazing bakery in Byron which is open 24 hours! Needless to say it was visited a lot, amazing sausage rolls and even better apple and cinnamon muffins - is it that obvious i've put on weight?? Speaking of weight, I have put myself on a strict(ish) diet along with Rose and Kylie. Will definitely NOT be joining Kylie on her 7am runs though. No no.
So we headed up to Surfers Paradise, where sadly we didn't have long, but it was nice to walk along the beach and check out the shops. We had another early start the next day taking us to Brisbane. We got into Brisbane about 9am, got to our hostel who 'upgraded' us to a nicer room - ie the cheap one we had booked was overbooked, so we had to pay extra - and we couldnt get in until one! Ridiculous! And then they had the audacity to tell us that we had to move the day after, so again we had to check out early. Hassle!!
To kill time we went and looked around the city, which is nice, but to be fair, like every other city we've seen! We headed back that afternoon and made plans for the evening, the girls friend Nicola has moved here, and coincidentally my friend Martin from uni was in Brisbane too so we also arranged to meet up. It all looked to be a big night, but Rose and I were taking it slowly as the next day we were off to DREAMWORLD!!!
We woke up early in the morn and the day seemed to be tainted from the start as Rose had picked up the tickets, and couldnt find them! Eventually found them, they had falled into the sheet inbetween the mattress (yes, i know, how?!). I had my own balls up when my belly got the better of me. We had 6 minutes until the train arrived, plenty of time to get some raisin toast from McDonalds! Except they took ages...and I ran and ran..flapping my arms like a madman whilst Rose is at the station doing crazy hand signals trying to hurry me up with the train about to depart! We got on it with miliseconds to spare....what a loser I hear you say..but the toast was so worth it.
Anyway, Dreamworld is Australia's biggest and best theme park (apparently!). It was awesome, it had this ride called 'The Big Drop' which is basically one of those rides that takes you really high up, then just free falls. Kinda self explanatory really! But what makes it amazing is that it's the highest in the world..and was very scary going up and up..if you looked to your right you could see the Brisbane skyline which was amazing, plus we were at least an hours drive away. We had the best lunch as well, $20 (10quid) all you can eat roasts/pasta/salad lots of stuff plus some rather yummy desserts. MMM. That was before the diet started by the way!!
We got back absolutely shattered and I fell asleep about 9pm, magazine on face practically. Gorgeous. The next day was ANOTHER early start to go to........
AUSTRALIA ZOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was so good! Saw lots of crocs, kangaroos, alligators, birds, snakes, wombats, tasmanian devils...so many I can't remember them all. But the best bit was getting to hold a koala! It gripped on so tight you could feel it's heart beating...it was called Ellen and I had to pay $15 for the pleasure but got a picture as well (I look dog rough in it, awesome). Steve Irwin posters, signs, videos were everywhere around the zoo, plus a lovely tribute which was quite sad. His daughter Bindi does a lot of promotional stuff with the zoo, she is only 9 and is absolutely amazing!
Luckily there is a Greyhound stop at the zoo so we got the bus at 3.30 to take us up to Hervey Bay, where we are at the moment. We are waiting around basically for our departure to Fraser Island, where SELF-DRIVE 4X4s are taken around the island, we set up camp for 2 nights. It looks amazing. There are 10 people per bus so hopefully we get some decent (hot) people (boys).
Best go..net is so expensive in oz!!!!!!!!! Bring back se asian prices!
Lotsa love xxxxxxxxxx
