Spanish Adventures
I got to spend this weekend in Geneva and it was amazing! My three friends and I left early friday and got there in the afternoon. We took a (super expensive) taxi to the "hotel" where we were staying. My friend found the room on booking.com and turns out it was like a small loft style apartment in an apartment/office building. We were quite confused when we got there but it turned out to be a great place to stay - and not far from the center of town. After we unloaded our stuff we went for a walk and then got (an expensive) dinner. As we found out Geneva is not cheap.
The next day I got up before my friends and went for a walk. The city was so nice and quite on a Saturday morning and the weather was absolutely beautiful. The sun was out and it was probably around 40 degrees so not cold at all. I got a little lost coming back but thanks to the app "city maps 2go" which tracks your location without wifi or cell service, I made it back okay.
When I got back the rest of the crew still wasn't up so I got them up and after everyone was ready we started our day. We went to see the big fountain thing that's a Geneva monument but I guess they turn it off in the winter because we walked really far down the lake and saw no sign of it. It was so nice out though none of us minded. We got some good pics and the air was so fresh.
Then we went to see the UN building which was a bit of a hike away. We had to backtrack down the lake so we could cross then walk pretty far from there. Eventually we made it and got to all the flags and stuff. After that we went to the Red Cross headquarters and went through their museum. They give you those headsets that talk to you in your own language. About halfway through mine switched to French so the exhibits got much less exciting after that.
Once we were done there we asked the guy at the front desk how to get a bus back because there was no way we were gonna walk it again. We took the bus to the Old Town where the cathedral is and grabbed some food. I had a chocolate and banana crepe which was really good. I wanted a burger but I couldn't, in good conscience, pay $22 for it. Anyways once we finished eating we walked around by the cathedral and through the winding streets and took some pictures and just enjoyed the view.
On the way home we stopped at a market and picked up bread, ham, chess, peanut butter, and jelly so we could make sandwiches for dinner and to travel with the next day. By the time we got back and finally sat down to relax I had walked over ten miles. So I'd say it was a pretty busy day!
The next day we got up to travel. Getting home included 2 busses, 2 plains, and 2 cabs, but luckily everything was on schedule and we made it back with no mishaps. It was a great trip and I have to say I realize now how much I take Spanish for granted. Since they speak French in Geneva we had no idea what they were saying and we didn't even really know easy phrases like "where is the bathroom" and stuff like that. I've never been so excited to be surrounded by Spanish as when we got back to Spain. Now I know what you feel like Mom listening to all that French.
Sorry this post is kind of long but it was a jam packed 72 hours!
