SUNSHINE at last! Today has tan potential, we're so eager to get our tan on infact we are walking down the beach at 5.30am. Well the latter is true but the real reason for our ridiculously eager behaviour is due to the night bus dropping us off at 5am. We can't check in until at least 7am so we have a few hours to waste watching the sunrise.
On first impression Nha Trang is that it is the Rio De Janerio of Vietnam. Football, volleyball and badminton courts are dotted across the beach, and there are pop up gyms every few hundred metres, there are even thai chi classes are going on along the beach front at 5am.
So, Nha Trang is the beach capital of Vietnam and I am so happy to be here. The beach goes on for miles and in the distance you can see mountains towering over the city. However the downside is its very, very touristy here. Theres not much going on apart from the beach and diving. The streets are full of high rise hotels and souviner shops. But still we're here for the beach so thats all the matters.
Today we set up camp at a beach resort called Louisiana brewhouse. This is a very swish bar with its own private beach, swimming pool and sunloungers. We paid 90p for the day to have uber comfy sunloungers on their private patch of beach and the option of a dip in the pool if we fancied. To cool off here the pool is a much better option that a dip in the sea as I read online there were 10 great white shark attacks in Nha Trang last year. You won't catch me close to the sea!
We spend the next 8 hours literally frying in the sunshine. Tom gets restless and goes for a walk every hour or so, he just can't sit still. Where as Im happy just lying here, I have a cocktail in one hand and a trashy gossip magazine in the other, this is the life.
After an 8 hour stint on the beach we are both sufficiently burnt. Tonight is going to be a very restless night.
We go out for dinner and have the best mussels I have ever had in my whole life. I could of eaten that meal 10x over. All the resturants have fresh water pools full of that evenings menu, its kind of off putting watching them fish out a lobster and see it slowly bbq from black to pink.
Day 2 -
Today involved sitting on the beach for 8 hours again. In result of this sun junkie stint I have a burnt bum and burnt side boob. We have met up with our friends from the Halong bay trip and its nice to have some female company. We spend the rest of the day with them by the beach, its so nice to have some down time.
Tonight we went out for cocktails, its averaging 90p a cocktail here but in most places each time you buy a beer you get a free mojito or gin and tonic. I don't really like mojitos but everything tastes better when its free.
Day 3 -
An exact repeat of day 2 in Nha Trang, more beach action. Ive just finished reading The Kite Runner, it took me two days to read which is a record time for me.
We go out for a curry tonight, its the best meal I've had here so far. I had a real hankering for a chicken tikka masala the past few days. Craving satisfied. Mash potato you're next...
