Now this is what im talking about, this is what Vietnam looked like in my imagination before I arrived here. Its beautiful. It has a similar atmosphere to Pai. The relaxed vibe and the colourful architecture and calm river make Hoi An one of my favourite places on this trip so far. Another reason I am a fan of this little easy going town is the weather, its finally shorts and t-shirt time again (hurrah!)
The city is bursting with history and brightly coloured rustic buildings. It is lovely just strolling through the cobbled streets window shopping and taking in the views. We stop occasionally for a drink in one of the many cafes that line the river front. Turns out beer is cheaper than water here, Ive already sobered up twice today and its not even 7pm.
One of the many reasons tourists visit Hoi An is for its tailoring reputation, in the old town the streets are overcrowded with tailoring shops all offering you a made to fit suit in less than 24 hours for around $50. Tom had a fitting for his first suit this morning and managed to haggle the price down from $90 down to $50. Hes picked a lovely shade of grey and is very excited at the prospect of looking dapper.
The following morning we go back to the tailors and Tom has a final fitting, it fits perfect and the suit is now en route back to England via Seamail.
We spend the afternoon doing our own thing, I go shopping and Tom sits in a riveside cafe sipping beer. I buy a lemon coloured dress, I have to get my fix of the pastel shades but Im going to need a tan before I can wear it.
That evening we're sunshine bound and jump aboard a 12 hour sleeper bus to Nha Trang, the beach centre of Vietnam. We're both excited as we've been deprived of sunshine the past few weeks and my level of paleness after being out here for a month is beginning to distress me.
