Still feeling a bit tender after our escapades up the mountain we got a taxi in to QEH after dropping our dirty clothes off at the laundrette across the road. Monday was a good start to my last week in A&E, after some bloods, IM injections and a few ECGs I got taught how to relocate a dislocated shoulder and watched a chest drain being placed for a small haemothorax almost invisible on x-ray. We met a gentleman who had been admitted last week with a gastric ulcer perforation, return with small bowel obstruction and a very upset women with panic attacks.
Tuesday I had decided to do a afternoon shift so went in just after lunch, leaving the morning for me to catch up with my blogging and emails (I now have a house to go back to in Yarm). The afternoon shift was busy with two construction workers falling from 2 stories up, a man admitted with AF, a 12 year old who kept fitting and a lady in labour with her sixth child. After dinner everything was a bit quieter and I headed home needing another early night.
Wednesday is comparison was dead (no pun intended). For my last day at the hospital it was a bit disappointing with only about 5 patients admitted during the day. I got to do a neurological exam on a man with a suspected stoke and help insert a nasogastric tube in an overdose patient. Dr Ahmed kindly signed off all my forms for the university with a glowing reference (he says it will help if I fail my finals!?!?) and I headed home after shift handover.
This evening will be spent packing as tomorrow morning I fly to Sandakan before heading into the rainforest for a stay on the River Kinabatangan .
Till next time...
