Today I spent most of the day in the green zone of the emergency department. This is where they deal with minor injuries, many of which I felt could have been seen by a GP. I managed to get a bit more hands on, taking blood and plaster casting and ended up not getting lunch until 1530.
I tried a pau (see blog photo) for lunch which looks like very white, uncooked bread dough, but it isn't raw and comes containing a variety of fillings. I had what was like mushed kidney beans in a sweet sauce that was surprising nice! I believe they can also come with jam or the more savoury option of chicken or pork.
I finished up the day reading up on heart sounds and seeing a patient with suspected appendicitis before taking the bus to the edge of town. It was a much more pleasant (and shorter) walk back to the hostel via the air conditioned shopping centres.
I finally managed to get myself a Malaysian sim card. After fishing around for the best deal I found one that came with 10MR credit and figure it will have paid for itself after 6 minutes on the phone home and hopefully I'll be able to keep in touch with some of the other students here. After a quick wonder around Asia City I decided to treat myself to dinner at Sri Malala again, but since lunch only costed 61p I think I can afford it!
Richard was back when I had finished dinner and we decided to make use of the cheap cinema tickets, going to see 'Super 8' later this evening. A strange mix of reality and aliens it was a interesting watch but nothing to rave about.
I keep thinking I need an early night but not sure when its going to happen :)
