Katie: Woke up this morning on the river boat travelling down the Yangze River, looked out of our window and had the most beautiful views. The room on the boat was basic but very nice considering we were travelling by boat. Had its own private toilet (...although it was a squat toilet!) and shower.
Got off the boat and got a smaller boat to travel further down the river, where we got off at a mountain and watched the most bizarre local show! The show was interesting with weird dancing but was way too loud for the audience...most sat with their fingers in their ears throughout! From the mountain we took a smaller 12 people boat, complete with our own driver and tour guide. It was a little bit like taking a gondala in Venice although there were so many tourists that we practically got stuck in a river traffic jam...only in China!
That evening we departed the boat and walked 300 stairs up the mountain side to our hotel. We stayed in the most amazing hotel that night with a balcony complete with a riverside view. The hotel room was immaculate and it was nice to have a little bit of luxury after staying on a boat and train for the last few nights!
The following day we had another early start and took a hydrofoil boat to the site of the Three Gorges Dam, on completion in 2009 it will be the biggest Dam in the world providing loads of power for China. It was quite interesting to see the site as it is huge.
From there we boarded another train for a 20 hour train journey to Beijing...
