We are spending a lot of time camping in Western Sahara - the first night was yesterday. We'd been to a lagoon in the afternoon and driven down an old seabed valley full of thousands of years old seashells which was a bit wierd in the middle of the desert. We then went on an old wooden fishing boat, complete with water and fish at the bottom to look at flamingoes. There they were in the distance - full paddle ahead, waves washing over us, the fisherman shouting and clapping to scare them off so a photographer could take them flying in a panic. Great! 😂

Then back up a thousand steps covered in the Sahara to be told we couldn't camp there in case the police mistook us for immigrants. So we ended up just as it was getting dark on some gravel underneath a sand dune. It took over 2 hours to set the camp up while I was chopping and peeling veg for the tea. In went the goats testicles. By 21.30, I decided to call it a night and escaped to my tent only to hold on to the central pole taking my trousers off and one side caving in.

it is VERY windy here and trying to put up tents is a bit challenging. No idea what sort of knots were used while I was making tea but I couldn't undo any of them. A gust of wind tore a tent from me and Lorraine who was standing on it was swept rolling away entangled in 2 layers of tent and a groundsheet. It took us 2 hours again to decamp and load the tops of the cars up and then set off over the desert further in to Western Sahara. I think I may be pissing some people off making a beeline for anything with 4 legs as there are a couple of people very scared of dogs here and one shouted at me when I was having a donkey cuddle. The camels are amazing here, they nibble your cheek if you rub behind their ears
