Katie’s Aimless Wanderings
I woke up this morning thinking to make the most of today. This was quickly challenged as 2 seconds after having a shower you are as hot and sweaty as you were beforehand. I had decided to do the walk to the 3 beaches, the others had decided to walk to the first one and see what happened. This quickly unraveled and due to illness, it was only Jeff and I that set off.
The first leg of the walk took us along the beach with a lagoon alongside it with large warning signs against the caymans. The sand here glints with gold specks which looks beautiful but is in fact fish poo from them eating the coral. We had to walk about half an hour to get to the first beach and then another half hour or so to get to the second.
As I start training for my first triathlon as soon as I get back, I donned my snorkel and went off to meet some fish. They were zipping in and out of the rocks and reminded me of that type of nurse who rushes around the ward looking really busy but never actually gets anything done. There wasn't much else there which is a good thing as practically as soon as I had it on, the eye piece from the mask fell out and that was the end of that. I expect a turtle swam past as soon as I couldn't use it.
We spent about an hour at that beach with me wave-jumping and I expect poor Jeff and Viva getting bored. Someone nearly drowned after getting cramp and being caught in a strong current but got rescued by 2 men - Pamela Anderson was never as quick as them, they sprinted into the water looking very manly.
The third beach was another mile or so down the rainforest track, and I think as we have a free day tomorrow, I'll go back there. Lines of pelicans and cormorants flapped past in V formations and eagles zoomed about overhead ( no avocets though Di, sorry babe).
So I have spent about 3 or 4 hours in the sea today and could have spent 3 or 4 more. The day ended with us visiting an Indian Kogi village but as they were all working in the fields up the mountain, I decided against it. Yet another cold shower sounds much more inviting.
