Today we walked around Gettysburg unfortunately a lot of the shops weren't open on a Tuesday. We had our first decent coffee and walked around town for an hour and a half. Really beautiful town - Scott and I went up to the Cemetary which had all of these unknown graves. Casualties of Gettysburg were 15000, in the cemetary there were 6000 US soldiers including 3580 Union Soldiers killed in Gettysburg. Nearly half those burials were unknown soldiers. Today we headed to Gettysburg. A 3 hr drive ahead of us hoping to arrive by lunch time. We were driving along the 81 when we heard the road was closed because of a sink hole. We were diverted to the 11 as were all the other thousands of trucks and cars. It took us 3 hrs to get 10 miles. Everyone was busting to go to the loo. Not fun to be in a traffic jam for 3 hrs. We headed off this morning around 7.30. Beautiful clear day we are heading to Grandfather Mountain. It was lovely walked over the swinging bridge. The swinging bridge is a mile above sea level. Freezing cold up the top. The blue ridge parkway is very beautiful. We went to the cafe because we saw a sign that said cappuccino and we were dying for a nice coffee. Well some of us were not up till late as we had not made the 1 hour time adjustment. This effected what we could do today. We went to visitor information in the main st where the guy put us into information overload. Anyway we strolled along the street and then drove to the Cataloochie Ranch which was closed - we are between seasons - they have a snow season and a summer season. We then go to see the elk. We left Nashville this morning with our car leading off. Instructions were given to Danos and Scott. Scott was driving and Danos was the navigator. We were heading in the wrong direction after the second turn. The other car took over and as they have a Navman. We were on our way to Waynesville in the Smokey Mountains.
