My bus arrived into Coff's Harbour at 5.10am - way too early! I had managed to sleep for the majority which was good but I was still shattered. Sat in the bus shelter, waiting for it to lighten a little I got talking to a girl who turned out to be staying at the same hostel as I was going to, so we walked together. By the end of the enormous trek to the hostel which was all the way over the other end of town I kind of whish she hadn't been saying there. I don't want to be cruel but every story that came out of her mouth was some personal tragedy and it was all so depressing. By the time i reached the hostel I couldn't bear to hear anymore. From what I could understand half the things she was complaining about were her fault anyway! Then when we checked in, we ended up in the same room together! She didn't seem to have much in the way of common sense to be fair - she went out for a walk to explore the place after we checked in, but she went out in the rain and without a coat! I didn't see her much after that so I spent most of my time talking to a Dutch girl called Ilona who was staying in my room as well.
That afternoon Ilona and I took a walk up to the 'Clog Hut'. A little miniature Dutch village in the middle of Coff's Harbour. A little of an odd location perhaps but it was quaint all the same. I then went and did a massive shop because it turned out that Clog Hut was right close to an Aldi. The only problem with that is that I had to walk back with it all and it took us the best part of an hour! The benefit was worth it though. I cooked myself a big curry, enough for 4 people and put the extra in a container and in the fridge. I was quite proud of myself. To be fair Mum, I think you would have been amazed! After dinner it was all you can drink punch night and all of us in the hostel got together and played some ridiculously funny drinking games. It was a good night.
The next morning I woke up to find it peeing down with rain. I did my washing and once the rain stopped I hung it all out. I lost count of the amount of times I ran in and out that morning bringing the washing back in and hanging it back out between showers. I gave up in the end and shoved it all in the tumble dryer. Then, of course, the weather in the afternoon brightened up. I decided to make the most of it and hired a bicycle and road up to the cinema and then to the big banana (another big thing to add to my collection) and back down along the seafront to the Jetty. As I cycled towards the jetty it was starting to get dark and rain again. To avoid the most of it I turned onto a path through some trees which quickly turned into a boardwalk out in the middle of a lake! I was cycling with a mass of water either side of me, on a rather precarious boardwalk in the dark. Not the most sensible of ideas Kathryn! I couldn't help but laugh though when I had fish jumping up out of the water on either side. After exiting the boardwalk I found myself in a colder sack on a street I didn't recognise and couldn't find on the map. Basically I was lost. I can find my way around Sydney no problem, but take me to Coff's Harbour and I get lost. It seems I have inherited my mothers sense of direction! after getting directions off a local I managed to find the jetty but by then it was pitch black. It was quite eerie sensation, cycling down a deserted jetty at night with the wind howling. Fun though.
I liked Coff's Harbour. Not the biggest of places but enough to do in the two days I was there and I was just glad I was able to get out and about in-between the showers.
