After a hectic time in Cairns, we moved onto Airlie Beach where we embarked on a two night sailing trip of the Whitsunday Islands.
Not knowing a great deal about the catamaran we were booked onto, we turned up and discovered it was infact the booze cruise out of all of the boats, so we promptly bought more alcohol and got onboard.
After a choppy first day, the boat was anchored and we enjoyed a fish supper, all very civilised. Then it turned into a bit of an 18-30s mess. Feeling far too old for that kind of malarky, we grit our teeth and joined in with the drinking games and actually had a very good evening.
It was this very night that the deck hand developed a soft spot for our Leah and proceeded to stalk her for the next two days and nights. Of course this highly amused me, but Leah soon found out that on a small boat, there really is nowhere to hide.
We went in the water a couple of times and did some of the best snorkelling I've ever done. Unfortunately the water has box jellyfish in it (most deadly in the world) so we had to put on stinger suits. It was like being in that Trinny and Susannah mirrored room - not pleasant (the girlies out there will know EXACTLY what I mean).
Despite there being beds on board, we were allowed to sleep on deck which was a great experience, sleeping under the stars and waking up with sea all around you. All in all, and despite the lack of showering facilities, it was a fantastic trip with pretty good weather and a great group of people (except for the token Americans).
After our sailing trip, We stopped briefly in a town called 1770 where we tore around the countryside on mini Harley Davidsons. I was the only person who failed to complete the practise course but amazingly they still allowed me onto the roads with real cars!
After seeing some kangaroos, we went to the pub for a beer and wedges and watched the sun go down. It was a great trip, totally bizarre to watch all these grown ups on mini motorbikes but we had an absolute blast.
So from sailing we move to our next destination, Fraser Island, for a spot of camping on the largest sand island in the world. Oh joy.
