Nelson to Westport
After checking the weather we left Nelson and headed towards the Nelson Lakes National Park to have a picnic lunch by lake Rotoiti - joined by some rather cheeky ducks and a lot of annoying sand flies! Needless to say we only stayed for about half and hour before heading south through to Murchison (for a quick ice-cream) and then winding our way down the amazing BUller Gorge. The gorge is split into two sections, the upper and lower. The road that runs through here is simply awesome and apparently one of the best drives in New Zealand.
We reached Wesport late afternoon and I made a home cooked for a few friends before everyone jumped back on the bus at around 7.30pm for a bonfire on the beach. You'll see some of the pictures of the sun setting and the moon rising. Amazing views, a beach covered in drift-wood (created mainly from all the logging in the region) and a beautiful sunset and moon rise. Unfortunately my pictures of the moon rising dont do it any justice, as it was simply breath-taking - the beach was lit up with camera flashes for about 10 minutes! There were a few short group sing-a-longs on the return journey, just to keep Scottie aka Diesel (our driver) entertained!
The following morning, myself and Susie went for a 2 hour horse trek, which was lovely. We went up this beautiful little creek, but forget to get any pictures which was a little annoying. Anyway, at least the thighs got a work out - forgot how much i enjoy riding!
