Due to adverse weather conditions (no visit to St Peters Port) and an unfortunate accident in the Kiel Canal (now we miss Copenhagen) we have ended up with more sea days than intended......so what does one do at sea on the Viking Sea???
There are a variety of choices available depending on your preferences so it is necessary to check the "Viking Daily" to see what is on and plan your day. Those who are highly active (which certainly is not me!) can do the running track around deck 2 - 4 laps = 1.6km or visit the gym. Of course there are shuttle board, mini golf and outdoor exercise equipment for more outdoor fun. My idea of fun is a merengue or salsa dance class run by the Viking dancers Gonzalo and Laura. Even with two left feet I managed to strut my stuff after 30 minutes!!
There is always a visit to the Nordic Spa to be had with its pools, spas, snow grotto (so cold!) or take the opportunity for a massage, facial or even a new hairstyle. You can brave the infinity pool or relax in a hot tub. Add in the enrichment lectures, workshops and port talks and it is easy to fill in a day or two. A few that I enjoyed "Rasputin - the Russian Mystic" and "Estonia - The Little Country that Could" and a big thanks to Gavin Roser for adding an Australian flavour to his lecture (Can we live without ships and major ports?) with a rousing rendition of Waltzing Matilda!!
For something more sedate I suggest downloading the Viking Art Guide app and walking the ship to view the art work. With works from Edvard Munch to Jakob Weidemann and many others there are some interesting pieces to be seen and I am not sure my photos do them justice. Wandering throughout the each deck of the ship, wherever there is a headphone icon and number adjacent to a piece, the corresponding audio file can be played back on the app. It is a great way to spend a couple of hours...Inspirational and educational.....
Don't forget to take high tea in the wintergarden........like we need it after all the glorious food we are having at meal times!!!!
AND THIS IS ONLY THE DAY TIME
Evenings bring shows, dancing or just a quiet little drink......as you review the day and prepare for tomorrow....
