Central and South America
SO! After saying our farewells to the lovely Bahia Inglesia beach, we once again jumped on a bus made our way south to La Serena. As usual, not having any accomodation booked we wondered over to first place of inquiry hoping it wouldn't be such a struggle to find a bed as it was in our last 2 destinations. Luckily for us....this hostel was gorgeous and available!! With relief, the 4 of us dropped our bags, checked out the mall and went to the supermarket to shop for essentials......and after purchasing our beloved vino, we headed back to the hostel for wine and olives. After chatting with a few other fellow travellers and a few bottles of wine later we decided to hit the town and find a drinking hole. However being a sunday (the whole continent pretty much shuts down on this day) of course everything was closed, however Dotes, being a persistent little partier, was devoted to finding a place to party. After an hour of wondering, Dotes hailed down the police to find somewhere to go. They directed us to a chicken shop. Well with Loz, Dotes and another American guy in a taxi, Lex and I decided to call it a night and went home.
The next morning, with Loz and Dotes sporting quite the hangover, we procrastinated about what to do for the rest of the day...what a thinker that was. Entourage series....or get of our arses to buy Mackas. Well, Lex and I watched the Entourage and Loz and Dotes fetched the Maccas. After a while Lex and I decided it was time to venture out and check out the beach, actually I was really against the idea, but having to listen to Lex winge is much worse. So with that joint decision over, we left Loz and Dotes in their room with movies looking ever so comfortable and walked our arses in the wrong direction to the beach. ARGH......so after turning ourselves around we made it to the beach which was, well, nice. Not amazing but nice all the same.
That afternoon we booked ourselves in to visit the the observatory of La Serena. Apparently the nights' sky is best seen in Chile as the view from there is the clearest, so at 7pm we jumped on the tour bus and made the 1 hour journey to cast our eyes into the abyss of the milky way.
Once there, our guide took us to one of the telescope and there the group (way too big and a little irritating) took turns in gazing upon the moon, and various constellations that neither of us can remeber the names of. Later, we moved outside to another telescope and viewed the southern cross, orions belt, some more constellations but most impressive was Saturn's Rings. Thats is something that truely was awesome. We were also told about one particular star that belongs to orions belt that is in fact a red star, meaning it is being watched to die and the explosion will be seen from earth however 26 light years from when it will actually happen. So for all we know it could have exploded already but we just haven't seen it yet. We got back to the hostel by midnight and was well and truely ready for a good nights sleep.
The next day Loz and Dotes headed of to Valparaiso so Lex and I enjoyed our next few days in La Serena relaxing and again checking out the beach for some much needed rays. Next stop.......Santiago! Finally we would be enjoying the music, vibe and memories of Lollopalooza music festival!!
PS. We didn't get too many photos unfortunately...
