Packed up my things ready for surf camp tonight, before checking out of my hostel.
It is ridiculously hot today, about 36 degrees, but nice that I dont have to do anything like go to work in it! Over a year ago I saw Bill granger on some cookery or lifestyle programme and he was doing his signature dishes of scrambled eggs on toast and breakfast pancakes, and serving them in his restaurant / cafe in sydney which is famous for its huge communal table, and i remember wanting to go to australia off it as it looked so relaxed an sunny! (it was probably cold and raining outside at the time!) But anyway, today i walked to Darlinghurst, an area of Sydney, and had scrambled eggs (the best ever) on toast in Bills Cafe at the communal table. Was a great morning! And very cool to just be there having heard about it so long ago, plus it was out of the heat and a great place to spend a lazy friday morning. I bought one of his books from his cafe and found out it was signed so that's really cool and a great souvenir me thinks! hehe.
After brunch i went back into town and did the tour of the opera house which was really interesting - there are two theatres, one just for ballet and opera, and the other for concerts and music and theatre, whcih is in the round. This was the most impressive one, with a fanned wooden ceiling which was just beautiful, the theatre took my breath away, it was gorgeous.
Afterwards I went into the Botanic gardens which are just across the road from the opera house. Was nice to be in the shade! I walked through to Mrs Macquaries point and her chair. Mr Macquarie was the governor of sydney and built the chair for his wife at her favourite viewing point of the city, as you can see the bridge and opera house in one go, along with the skyline. It was so impressive and i think i practically filled a whole memory card on my camera taking pictures! hehe. Brilliant to see the famous view of sydney with both landmarks in it.
I had some tea in Gloria Jeans before saying goodbye to sydney as i headed back to my hostel ready for the surf camp pick up.
