Kate's Travels
On Wednesday morning I went on a harbour cruise for an hour which was great - the views were awesome and it was great to see all the postcard sites! Great way of spending a sunny morning.
I wanted to do a tour of the opera house this morning but the first tour wasnt until 1pm due to rehearsals which clashed with my bridge climb so ill have to do it on friday. So i went around the shops instead, sent some postcards, had lunch and a wander, its so hot today, about 30 degrees, so kept inside for a bit as the city is boiling!
Met at the bridge climb at 2pm and got suited and harnessed up. You can't take cameras up unfortunately but i got a photo taken in my lovely suit so it can live with me forever!! hehe. They advertise it as a strenuous, hard work activity but its not at all. There are lots of steps but you dont notice them as they are very shallow and widely spaced so its not tiring. Also you spend a lot of time at the top of the bridge having photos taken and hearing all about what you can see, so its really chilled out. It takes about 3 and half hours but it didnt feel like it, the time flew by.
The views were amazing, both across to the opera house and north sydney and down onto the traffic of the bridge. I thought it would be quite peaceful but despite being so high up you can still hear the traffic below and all the boats on the harbour, so that made me feel like i wasn't as high up as i actually was. Plus you are attatched to the actual bridge with a chain thing and the steps are all enclosed so it doesnt feel perilous (not sure of that spelling!) or anything. Was really, really good fun and id definately reccommend it, was great fun and an awesome afternoon.
After the bridge i went to the sydney tower, the tallest building in sydney. I had a free ticket essentailly with my ticket from the acquarium so thought i might aswell! I made sure i was up for the sunset and wasnt disappointed. There seems to be something going on today as again i couldnt take any pictures, the glass kept reflecting my flash too much, so i just took in the views and remembered the sights!
Sydney is a gorgeous city at night, really spectacular as everything is lit up and set off by the stunning harbour. After an hour or so looking out onto the city i left the tower and went back up to circular quay to see the bridge and opera house lit up closer up. They are so grand and pretty breathtaking. They are so famous that it is hard to believe that you are actually seeing them with your own eyes. The bridge is bigger than i imagined and the opera house smaller, but both equally impressive. I had tea overlooking the sydney skyline then crashed out at the hostel, had walked absolutely miles and my feet felt like they were going to drop off!! hehe
