We didn't stay in Orewa for long before heading north towards Whangarei. On the way we stopped in at Sheepworld in Walkworth, as you all know Newzealand is famous for sheep and the Newzealanders are very proud of this! When we arrived we had just missed the begining of a show but we joined in anyway. There was a demonstration of sheephearding and the guy told us all about his dogs who were very clever! Then we went inside where he showed us the shearing of a sheep. The sheep didn't jump around half as much as i thought it would have. The end of the show involved us feeding the baby lambs which was the best bit! We all sat on the front row holding out the bottles then the lambs were let in and they all came running up to you. The show lastest about an hour, afterwards we were allowed to walk aroung the farm and feed all of the other animals apart from the lambs because the hard food hurts their stomaches. When we left Sheepworld we headed for a small place called Pakiri where we stayed for the night. There wasn't much there other than a beach which would have been nice if the sun was out...
The next day we carried on heading north until we reached Whangarei which is the largest town in the Northland. We spent the first few days in Whangarei looking around the town then on the day it started raining we had decided to do a walk to the falls. We left the campsite at about 11am and the rain was only very light so we thought we'd be ok. We started our walk through a Kauri forest which is accessable from the campsite. It wasn't long before we reached a canapy walkway throught the forest which led to a small waterfall. On the way towards the Whangarei waterfalls it started to rain but we decided to just get to the waterfalls instead of stopping as we thought that there might be a cafe there or something. (We had previously seen a sigh for a tourist information!). We walked for about half an hour in the rain and got soaking wet despite the waterproofs we were wearing, only to find the 'tourist information' was just an infomation board and there wasn't a cafe or shop in sight! We hunted around for a tree to hide under but when that was unsuccessful we headed off down the road back towrds the campsite. It was about 4km back to the campsite and it rained hard all the way we managed to entertain ourselves with a few games along the way!
When we got back to the campsite all of our wet clothes needed a wash so we shoved a load of washing in the machine and sat down to watch the tv in another room. 20 minutes later we went back to out our clothes in the dryer and i remember thinking that i was sure i had put more clothes in the washing machine. Thinking it was just because all of the clothes were wet and clinging to the side of the top loader washing machine, we left the clothes to dry and went back to the tv. When our clothes were dry, Rachel and i were busy folding them when i realised that my only pair of jeans were missing and a hooded jumper (that i had aquired only two days earlier) wasn't there either. Then i realised a pair of Neils trousers were missing and Rach had two pairs of trousers missing aswell! We reported it to the staff but there wasn't really anything they could do. Another man had had a pair of shorts taken and a bag which we assume the theif took the clothes in! I think somebody came on to the site from the street. I was soooo annoyed but have calmed down now! I just hope the theiving gypsy that stole them needs them more than we do...
We got a free night the next night because of the incident!
