We didn't do the drive from Christchurch to Queenstown in the same day, instead we stopped at Lake Pukaki. There wasn't much there other than the lake and a look out point to Mount Cook but it was late by the time we got there so we thought we'd stay and catch the sunrise in the moring. We got up early the next morning and the sunrise was awsome but unfortunately we couldn't see Aoraki from where we were parked! We hadn't realised this the night before because it was dark! After breakfast we drove the rest of the way until we got to Mount Cook village which was tiny but driving into the village was cool as it was covered in snow. It was strange because as soon as you drove out of the village, the snow disappeared! We did a walk to the Hooker Valley Glacier which is supposed to give great views of Mt Cook but we couldn't see a thing because of the snow and the low cloud that had plonked itself on top of the mountain. The walk would have been better if we could have seen Mt Cook but it was still awsome even if the cloud did have it's own way! Afterwards we drove on to Queenstown in search of a job!
(If any one is asking themselves what is so good about Mt.Cook....the Maori word 'Aoraki' means 'Cloud Piercer' and it is the tallest mountain in Australasia standing at 3755. You can't climb Mt Cook unless you are an experienced mountaineerer and more than 200 people have perished in climbing accidents. So, it's pretty special!)
