Made it out of New Zealand without any problems but with lots of luggage. They threatened us with a $600 excess charge so we had to throw away loads of stuff which made me want to scream especially when the lady said "oh this is too good to throw away we will put it in the staff room" Carl and I are on to their ploy to make money and get free stuff. b******s. What is wrong with carrying 20kg of handluggage?!
The flights and connections were not too much hassle and we watched lots of good movies. The only hassle was filling in tonnes of customs forms including a disclaimer to say we did not have swine flu. we had to go through thermal cameras to make sure we did not have a fever. We almost did though as we were each wearing 10 kg of clothes.
Got to Hong Kong airport and stowed our luggage. We had a super freidnly taxi driver who spoke almost no english and Carl has only learnt 1 word in chinese so conversation was limited. He did ask if we were brother and sister though as we looked alike and the holding hands did not seem to give him any clues.
The city is busy. It has as many people here in 1 city as in the whole of NZ so it is quite a change! We went out for food after checking into our hotal and as we were starving after so much travelling. The menus are...interesting. Frogs are a favourite and apparantly pigs blood is a good combination to have with large intestine but we are not sure what goes with the small intestine. Suffice to say we ordered sweet and sour else we would still be hungry.
We are off sightseeing today and are about to get the ferry across to Hong Kong Island before sightseeing on that side. Tonight we will be stuffing our faces if we can find something other than duck tongues and shredded pigs ears. Also our hotel is close to a lot of markets so we will be checking those out.
Making the most of our last few days but we will see you all before the weekend.
Love Kat & Carl
