Karen's Travels
Hi everyone
Wanted to let you know that I have tried replying to emails left on my message board, but without success. You are not being ignored! The technology is not working!
A few titbits about daily life in Thailand: lots of dogs with no apparent owners spend most of the day in a comatose state except when they are scavenging for food; rather mangy; a good scattering of thin cats too. Dogs come alive at night, usually when we are trying to sleep! Watched one today digging a hole in the sand to sit in - obviously coooler beneath the surface! Other wildlife includes large butterflies and lizards - the latter inhabit our room and keep down the mosquito population! Favourite mode of transport for locals and tourists is the motorbike or moped. Spend most of our time dodging them on the pavements. Taxis are open backed trucks which feel a little unsafe on sharp bends as you have nothing to hold onto! Our favourite refreshing drink in banana milkshake - it makes a change from water. Desire for alcohol is not strong, probably due to heat, although I have had a couple of pina coladas (very cheap!). Six hour boat trip to Krabi tomorrow and three hour bus ride will take most of the day. Oh, musn't forget the toilets! You have to put your toilet paper in the bin next to the toilet, not down the pan so gets very smelly. Hose provided but very often NO loo roll. Seems to be something the locals manage without! Have used several squat toilets already - yuk! Thought I'd share that with you! Thanks for all your messages. More soon .....
