Karen's Travels
Hellow everyone
Writing from Railey and the Rai Lay View Point resort - lovely air-conditioned room for 5 pounds per night! Travelled here by long-tail boat which was a great experience, although disembarking in the water with a rucksack was more of a challenge! We are staying on the east side, but the beaches on the west are the better ones and within walking distance. Today we visited one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (Hat Phra Nang) and I hope to download some photos soon. Also visited the Diamond Cave this morning which consists of three caverns and has some of the most beautiful limestone formations in the country, including a golden 'stone waterfall' of sparkling quartz. Local mythology says it is the grand palace of the sea princess. Lots of interesting wildlife at the beach, including huge beached jelly fish and hundreds of small crabs. Had some rain this afternoon, which is to be expected as we are into the rainy season - but still hot. We seem to have adopted a cat - so many strays here, looking pitifully thin. I gave our friend some water and later on some tuna, so I don't think she'll go away now! Getting my share of mosquito bites now, after boasting about the fact that they never bite me. Have bought some extra strength repellent for China. Start taking my malaria tablets in a few days. We are hoping to try the jungle experience tomorrow, including elephant trekking. Thank you for all your messages, which are greatly valued. Sorry, due to technical problems, I have not been able to answer them personally yet. Love to all.
