Today is our last day of touring Rome....where did the time go? We had a leisurely morning as we had nothing planned until noon, so we had breakfast at the hotel and headed off to Vatican City and just wandered about for awhile and finished some last minute souvenir shopping. At noon we headed off to our Vatican Tour. This was a very interesting tour.....our tour guide today was Daniela and she was very informative! We started off with the Vatican Museum and made our way through miles of priceless artifacts and art work. Once we completed our tour of the museum, we ended up in the Sistine Chapel. What an amazing sight! Now, this is where things get interesting!
The Sistine Chapel was VERY crowded and our group got separated. Nowhere was there signage saying "turn left to get to St. Peter's Basilica", so of course, we all ended up going right. Part of our group got all the way back to the beginning of the tour and the other part of us ended up somewhere in the middle.....where we eventually found each other by some miracle! From there, we had to go back to the start and go ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL the way back to the beginning and go through the WHOLE tour again! ARGH!!!!! Oh, I must back up here or you'll be completely confused with my next statement.....Patrick and I somehow got signalled out to have our backpacks checked, so once we got all the way through St. Peter's, we realized we had to go all the way around the OUTSIDE of the Basilica AND museum to get back to the bag check! Of course, it's now 4:40 pm and everything closes at 5:00 pm.....so off Patrick and I go at a mad clip to get our bags. We finally get our bags and headed back to meet the rest of our group and rest for a bit before heading off to find somewhere to eat.
As we walked, we found a nice restaurant with seats available outdoors and we had a wonderful "Last Supper" as Vicki called it. Peter even found a need for his trick spoon for dinner tonight and no one's food was safe! After finishing our wonderful meal, we headed back to the Metro and grabbed one last gelato before getting to the hotel. It's now time to head to bed so I can get up tomorrow and finish packing to go home. One last entry tomorrow!
