Happiness Is The Road
After brekky we drove into Katherine and did some food shopping at Woolworths. Then we hit the highway north again for 200 or so kilometres up towards Litchfield National Park. On the way we stopped at a small settlement called Pine Creek and drove up to the mining lookout. The mine was an open cut gold mine but is now disused and had been filled in with water. It looked a lovely deep blue. After this we carried on along the highway. For a few kilometres we came off the main highway and took a signed tourist drive. This road linked back onto the main highway further up. The road was single file a lot of the way but it was sealed and very quiet. It took us right out into the bush and was more scenic and chilled than the main highway. Eventually we got to the turn off for Litchfield National Park. We drove through a small town called Batchelor and then on towards the park. We had decided to stay at the Litchfield Tourist Park as it had good reviews on Trip Advisor. It seemed okay to begin with and we chose a nice quiet spot with some shade. The amenities though were terrible and some of the worst of the trip. The showers were dirty and Jay counted 18 spiders amongst all the cobwebs in the ladies. Jay's hardened to spiders now but this certainly wasn't a good place for anyone who suffers from arachnophobia. At around midnight when we ventured out to the loo the site was very noisy with a load of inconsiderate people laughing and woop wooping. As it was hot we had our fan on and the whirring of the fan was luckily drowning out these idiots so we slept okay. We feel a bad Trip Advisor review coming on!
