Happiness Is The Road
I had a strange encounter in the night. I woke up suddenly in a panic, sweating. It was hot as hell. I felt something strange and alternative wriggling beside me. I opened my eyes but it wasn't Jay that I saw. To my abject horror I found myself sharing some kind of weird pod with an altogether odd looking being. She had antennae on her head and a quite vulgar looking outtie of a belly button pulsing hypnotically between purple and the most unusual of colours I cannot describe to you. Let's just say that these colour were not of the earth. I was transfixed and If I'm honest with you a shade out of my comfort zone. Her head turned round to face me and her eyes were wild and red. I could not move. She had me in some sort of magnetic field. She turned to me knowingly and my thoughts were extracted from me, telepathically it would appear. She was reading my mind! ..... oh ****!!! She had a lovely face, very sweet if you ignored the wild red eyes. Her eyelashes were long and pretty and her lips were salivating in a rather sensual way. I was a mixed bag of feelings. What did she want with me, where was I? Just as I was starting go delirious her belly button pulsed vibrantly through more colours I simply cannot describe. She began to vibrate and then pulse and she started to change before my eyes, she had a tail, a long flowing white one with a pink ribbon on the end, and then she didn't. She had her wild red eyes and then they changed to silver and black. Her beautiful pink legs thrashed wildly and then they were green and scaly. She then let out a roar followed by a piercing scream and some sort of force flung me into the back of the pod.I was thrashing about and something grabbed my head. I came round having startled myself with a loud snort of my own doing. Jay was there comforting me. Had I been abducted by a Wycliffe Well alien or was it just a dream? I'll never know but it was weird.
After brekky we left the UFO centre of Australia and hit the Stuart Highway. We had a long drive ahead of us today to our intended destination. Not long into our journey we went past the Devils Marbles. We could see them from the road and they still looked amazing. About an hour after this we drove back through Tennant Creek and shortly after this we turned off the highway to go and have a look at The Pebbles, a formation of granite outcrops. They were down a few kilometres of dirt road and although they were nice to look at they weren't as dramatic or as amazing as the Devils Marbles. From here we got back on the highway and got to Daly Waters by mid afternoon. When we got there we had covered well over 500 kilometres from Wycliffe Well and we were now less than 600 kilometres from Darwin. Daly Waters was just off the Stuart Highway and it is famous for it's historic pub advertised as a fairdinkum outback experience. We stayed on the caravan park at the side of the pub. We got shown to our spot by a proper Aussie bloke who told us about the place. The amenities were a row of huts/dunnies that each had a shower and loo in it. He said 'my best advice to you is to knock before you go in!' The pub inside is very quirky and packed to the rafters full of memorabilia including a range of donated bras and knickers fixed to the roof and walls for which it is famous. It had a massive beer garden and was also famous for it's beef & barra barbecue. We decided to eat here and booked for our beef & barra later on. We relaxed for a few hours and then went over to the bar to get a couple of icy cold beers. Our beef and barra (barramundi) was freshly cooked on the barbecue and we helped ourselves to the salad bar and damper bread. The food was absolutely delicious. The fish was bursting with flavour and the steak was perfectly cooked and tasted awesome. We ate our meal whilst listening to the entertainment. They had a real Aussie guy called Chilli playing the guitar, singing traditional songs and telling a few jokes. We had really enjoyed ourselves at this quirky and eccentric place. It was another hot night. The sound of the fan lulled us to sleep.
