Happiness Is The Road
We woke up to our beautiful sea view. After brekky we left the camp site but we might come back here for another couple of days after we've been to the Northland as the only way back south is through Auckland. It's a good job we were leaving today as the guy on reception had told me yesterday that five waterfront sites had been booked by a UK television company for a few days. They were coming to film a reality series called RV Rampage. We dread to think how awful it would be here with TV cameras and the sort of irritating and annoying extroverted people that reality programmes seem to attract. We were out of there before the rampage began. We needed some food so on the way out of Auckland we stopped at a Pak N Save supermarket. It was a big yellow place and was like Asda, Macro and Aldi all rolled into one. It was pretty cheap and we managed to get all the stuff we needed. From here we hit the motorway and we were soon out of Auckland's suburbs and into the rolling green countryside. We stopped for some lunch at Mangawhai which was a lovely quiet place on the coast. We then drove further on to Mangawhai Heads where we went for a walk along the beach. It was an absolutely stunning place and a taster we think of the incredible scenery that awaits us on our trip round New Zealand. The sea was a gorgeous turquoise and the sand was white. We had a paddle and the water was beautifully warm. After this we drove a bit further up the coast to Waipu Cove where we had planned to stay the night. The camp site was really quiet and right next to the beach. We chilled out here and went for another beach walk later on. It was another lovely beach and it had lots of beautiful shells scattered across it. There were lots of identical looking wooden steps down onto the beach so Jay wrote 'This One!' in the sand so we'd know which one to take back to the camper. We went to sleep to the sound of the waves lapping the shore nearby.
