Happiness Is The Road
We had really enjoyed staying here with all the wildlife. The National Park camp sites are usually the best ones. We had a leisurely breakfast and then hit the road. We stopped off on the way at Tathra and had a walk along the beach. We then drove further north to Narooma. We stopped here for lunch and then went for a walk. We went on the Mills Bay Boardwalk which hugs the coast over the water for about a kilometre. We saw a few small fish but not the stingrays that had been promised by Lonely Planet. We came back along the boardwalk and carried on walking around the bay to the town of Narooma. We walked for a few kilometres and just before we were about to turn round and go back to the camper Jay spotted some pelicans. These were the first pelicans that Jay had seen up close. They are incredible birds. It was great to watch them dunking their huge beaks under the water to catch the fish. Suddenly Jay noticed something big moving in the water. It looked very much like a stingray. We walked up onto a small jetty and then got the most amazing view of these fascinating creatures. They move very gracefully through the water and we got some great photos. The stingrays had made the walk very worthwhile. We then walked back to the camper and then drove round the bay to the ocean. A guy who we got talking to on the walk earlier had told us that there was a natural hole in the rock that looked very similar to the outline of the Australian coast. He wasn’t wrong. The hole was indeed very similar to Australia and this was another great photo opportunity. It was about 4pm now and we decided to go and find a camp site for the night. Our first choice was a place called Dalmeny just a few kilometres away. We just didn’t like the look of this site. It was basically just a big field with a load of dubious looking people on it. Although the view of the ocean was good the vibe we got from the site wasn’t good. It looked a bit like a gypsy site! We headed on down the road a little further North and decided to go and have a look at a place called Tuross Head. There were two campsites here and we chose the one by the lake. We chose really well. It was a lovely quiet site and we got a spot on the edge of the lake with the most amazing view. It was one of the best camp site views that there has been. This site also had a huge swimming pool. By far the biggest camp site pool so far. We just had to go for a dip and the water was lovely and warm. Later on we had our tea in front of the lovely lake view and chilled as we watched the sun set over the lake.
