It's lunchtime Thursday and we're sitting in Esztergom enjoying a
Late lunch.
Yesterday we struck deep Into Hungary passing through Many small villages and taking a lot of minor back tracks. The Euro velo 6 signs are very good but sadly the same can't be said for the roads. We slopped and slid our way along feeling sure we were in New Guinea, not Europe. The road bikes handled the conditions well though an we
Made it through unscathed apart from a liberal coating of mud on both machines and riders. We stopped for lunch in a tiny village and were able to take the bikes out the back of the diner for a hose down and away we went again.
We had planned a long day's ride yesterday but you know what happens to plans.
Instead we were attracted to the hot mineral springs in Komarom and that was as far as we went. We booked into a room and I jumped into the hot spring to ease all the aches & pains.
Meanwhile Sandi hit the local shops to pick up suitable bathing attire.
She was eventually successful and returned looking stunning in a little black number.
That was all lovely and relaxing but meant our 'big' day pulled up at about 55 km.
This morning we awoke refreshed by the rest only to find the fine weather of yesterday afternoon had been replaced with solid rain.
Not to be deterred by such a minor inconvenience we pushed along over the busiest roads we have encountered so far.
We have done as many km before lunch today as we did all day yesterday. Sandra is really steaming along the wet, heavily trafficked roads, passing all the other bicycle tourists like they're standing still.
Esztergom looks nice but we will press on now along the riverbank once more toward the Danube Bend.
See you soon.
