Hi. Tomorrow I start my third journey to Asia. This time I will spend about 1 year volunteering at Tra Vinh University in Tra Vinh, Vietnam. After my last trip, I knew I wanted to return to Asia to live. Last winter, I found Volunteers in Asia (VIA), a non-profit located in San Francisco (http://www.viaprograms.org/). "VIA is dedicated to increasing understanding between the United States and Asia through public service and programs promoting cross-cultural education." I applied to the Vietnam program, and after two interviews I was accepted.
I am really excited to get out there, and help out in any way I can. My main job will be teaching whatever the University needs me to teach. I also hope to get involved in the community during my free time. Thanks for everyone's support. Please leave comments on the blog, and feel free to message me with questions.
Anyway, I leave tomorrow for the long flight to Bangkok. I will meet my sister there, and we are planning to travel to Angkor Wat in Cambodia and then to some Thai Islands. Jenna leaves on July 12, and then I will head to Chiang Mai, Thailand for two weeks of training. After Chiang Mai, I have two weeks of language classes in Hanoi, Vietnam and then two weeks to get to Tra Vinh. I should be teaching in Tra Vinh by early September. Take care and stay in touch!
