An update on the last couple of days. Tuesday was another superb day with the sun out & the market to stroll around in the morning. The fresh food looks so inviting with everything ranging from cheeses, olives, fruits, meat, fish etc with the largest strawberries we've seen since our last trip to France (sorry Billy). We've been staying in B&Bs which is a little limiting if you wish to purchase & consume the yummy produce so we will probably do the apartments next time. Looking forward to apartments from Nice onwards.
While walking through the market, we came across a TV camera filming one of the stalls. When we walk back a short time later, Gabriel Gate was talking to the stall holder. Our guess is that he was recording for 'le taste of the tour', as Annecy is the 2nd last stage of this years Tour de France, before The Tour travels to Paris. It will be something to keep an eye out for in July.
We took a cruise along the Annecy lake Tuesday afternoon which was interesting, met an Aussie couple who were down from Lyon for the day where they were staying with a friend who has been working for the World Health Organisation in Lyon for a couple of years. Sounds like a good career path Stelle! (We would be very regular visitors)
Yesterday was a drizzly day, although quite humid so some browsing the shops & chilling out in our quaint little room. (64 steps to our room so need to rest when we finally get up there!) We left Annecy today & had to bus to Lyon which is West, before then catching the train to Avignon which is South.
Liz & Paul you would remember well the Lyon train station no doubt ,with everyone standing at the information board to find out the platform for your train then the sudden rush 10 mins prior to departure to try & get on the train! Always gets the adrenaline running. The gypsies were still up to their tricks at the station trying to get money off poor unsuspecting tourists. We weren't approached this time which was interesting as people either side of us were.
We've arrived in Avignon & it's a little cool & damp, so looking at day trips & things to keep us entertained if the weather isn't great. Don't feel too sorry for us I'm sure we will be fine! It looks a beautiful city, lots of tourists around when we arrived. Yes we have this thing about too many tourists, which is amusing considering we are tourists, however we don't have white socks & white sandshoes or socks & sandals!
Given we are in Provence, we ate the last thing you could think of for our evening meal, sushi & sashimi (John washed it down with Japanese beer). It was fantastic, however we were the only ones in the restaurant. To be a bit French, we had Evian water with our meal.

Liz Hi guys. Your photos are wonderful, stunning locations. I especially love the narrow streets & old bridges. I fondly remember the market at Beaune, having never such beautiful produce. Enjoy Avignon. Love Liz & Paul.
