I managed to get a little sleep last-night but my body is really feeling the strain of sleeping in a chair on a bus two nights running - to go with that I wouldn't have drank 1 litre of water which is also playing havoc with my body. I decided to eat something at about 7am as the girl who was supposed to be working was still fast asleep and not looking like waking. At about 8:30am she decided to get up and start handing out breakfast: even worse then yesterday a piece of bread with might be a trace of jam on it - it's hilarious they call this full catering and services. I am really looking forward to getting off the bus, having a warm shower and maybe a few hours of sleep in a nice bed. The rest of the journey to Mancora was rough to say the least - the suspension was gone on the back of the bus and every time we went around a corner the bus would rock left and right continuously for the next 5 minutes. We arrived at Mancora and I made my way straight for the hostel about a 30 minute walk. The hostel was at the end of a long road right on the beach and looked quite nice at first. I have come to work here at The Point Hostel maybe for 1-2 months, unfortunately from the first moments I have a bad feeling about the place. First thing is the shifts are much longer then I was first told now 5 hour shifts and for the first 3 days working I have to pay for room, food etc - another thing I wasn't told - it kept getting worse and worse no Internet, no where to prepare my own food - God what have I got myself into?? I had to bail so I went and told the Manager I don't think this job is for me (in that I mean slave labour) and that I would be leaving straight away. I packed my things, said goodbye to all the people I had met and made my way back to the centre of town. I have heard great things about this small town called Lobitos just outside of Mancora so I booked the first bus heading there. An hour and a half later I was in Talara trying to get a collectivo out to Lobitos, after half an hour I got a ride and I was on my way. I found the hostel that was advertising for a volunteer but unfortunately it was no longer a hostel - another volunteer organization had taken over hostel but were charging $900 to volunteer. I now had to find a place to stay so I went walking coming across a few places but very rough and expensive - it was getting dark and I was getting desperate, I had seen one place that looked ok from the front so I went and booked in. The guy managing the place was very arrogant and spun me some bulls***. The room was ok, but there was no running water, no where to buy food except their expensive kitchen menu and the shower was a bucket of water with a piece of string attached. s*** what have I got myself into - they did have wifi but very slow so I spent a few hours trying to work out my next move. Luckily I had some popcorn, dried biscuits and raisins and nuts leftover which made up my dinner. It got really cold at night and just one small sheet with a hole in it to keep me warm so once again I had to put all my warm clothes on and try stay warm.
