A Day at the Beach! Waking up feeling much better was like winning the lottery this morning. After some breakfast and catching up on emails I went over to see the English girls and work out a plan for the day. The girls wanted to do a few things in town so we wondered around a bit, brought some watermelon and then decided to head to the famous Santo Domingo beach. On the way to the bus stop we met a Singaporean guy called Ronald who decided he would join us. When we were waiting for the bus this guy came up and offered to drive us all out to the beach for $1 per person so we jumped at the offer and we were off. The ride out was nice: going through villages , farming areas and dense Forrest before finally arriving at the beach. The beach was quite strange with dark black sand, fresh water and a dirty big volcano in the background and little expensive hotels lining the road. We all rushed to get in the water and it was so nice and cool and as you guessed not salty. We swam, had handstand competitions, practiced yoga and tried to make the most of the sun whilst it was out. The weather is really strange on the island and constantly changing and literally every hour we would get pouring rain followed by wind and then the sun would sneak its head back through. I went for a walk around the small village checking out all the resteraunts which all looked nice but were incredibly overpriced for Nicaragua so after chatting with others we all decided to head back to Moyogalpa. We had to take the local bus back which turned into a 3 hour ordeal involving waiting around for an hour, taking one bus, waiting some more and then taking another bus which finally brought us back to town. The others went for a late lunch at the resteraunt where we ran into my Portuguese friend I had done the Ziplining with. We decided to have a few drinks tonight back at the girls hostel; so we went and brought some of the local liquor and fruit juice and started what would be a long and drunken night. The liquor was kind of like vodka but with a nasty smell and none of us really liked it but we kept drinking it and within an hour we were already back down the shop for another two bottles. I felt myself getting pretty drunk and decided to beeline it for some dinner. Unfortunately when we arrived at my favorite little chicken resteraunt they had just sold the last pieces of chicken and we were left with salad and banana chips that didn't quite do it for us. We found a lady making burgers on the side of the road and decided to go with that as to not waste time when there was drinking to be done back at the hostel. When we got back Ronald and the Israeli girl from our hostel had joined us and we had a nice group of people together drinking, sharing stories and enjoying life. The night got better and better with bad jokes, dancing, shop missions and shenanigans but by midnight I was drunk and could only think of one thing: my bed. I said goodnight, stumbled back to the hostel, had a feed and then passed out on my bed.
OBSERVATIONS:
- Santo Domingo beach day
- Party at Hospedaje Central with English girls, Luis and Ronald - cheap and nasty local liquor
