Sunday BBQ!! I woke up to heavy heavy rain this morning and unfortunately it would keep up all the way through to midday. In the morning I helped Nico clean up the house and started preparing the lunch and dinner; as Nico had invited some friends around for a Sunday BBQ. After a few hours in the kitchen preparing the food (papaya casserole) I started on the BBQ. The friends of Nicos came around with their 2 young children and unfortunately only the guy could talk English so I didn't have much interaction with them. The coals heated up quickly for the bbq and I chucked on a few pork chops, sausages and onions and within 30 minutes everything was cooked and ready to eat. We cracked open a bottle of Red wine and toasted the company, the day and the food. So along with the sausages and chops we had roast potatoes and a delicious Belgium slow roasted beef casserole dish (cooked in Belgium beer) and a flash looking cream cake for dessert. The meal was delicious but unfortunately everyone was to busy speaking in French to try and speak with me; so it was a little boring. In the afternoon when the rain had finally stopped I went for a walk and had a look around Matoury. The rest of the afternoon Nico had people coming and going and luckily one of them- John (who is also involved in Couchsurfing) spoke English well and I was able to have a good conversation with him about travel and life here in French Guiana. In the evening we had to shut the house up as there were millions of Mosquitos which unfortunately meant the rest of the night sitting inside a sweat box as there was no air or breeze circulating. 4 days has been more then enough time here in Cayenne and although I have really enjoyed my stay its not a place I could ever see myself living. Nico has shown incredible hospitality and how he juggles his incredibly busy life along with hosting: I don't know.
