Zip-lining woohoo!!! Although I am not feeling 100% I have still decided to give the zip-lining tour a crack today with my mate Luis from Portugal. After another brilliant breakfast we had a few hours to kill before our 10:30am departure to the Monteverde Extreme Park. We were picked up and taken out to the park with about 8 or so other tourists all of us nervously making small talk to keep our minds from what we had got ourselfs into (the others in the van were bungee jumping). We arrived at the park headquarters and there was about 100 people gearing up for the various activities along with 20 odd instructors and workers. After a little wait we were put into our harnesses, given our helmets and gloves and directed to the training area. I still wasn't feeling that great but I was ready for what I am sure was going to be a lot of fun. There was about 40 people in our group and we were given a short safety presentation on how to zip-line and then headed up to the first line. My mate Luis is a little scared of heights and I could tell he was nervous along with a bunch of other people in the group. We were clipped in, told where to position our hands and then let go; sailing along the cables from one treetop station to the next. The first cables were short and were good warm-ups, the views were incredible and luckily the rain was holding off. There were small walks from one platform to the next platform that really had me sweating it and made for some physical activity. The lines got better and better and longer and longer with spectacular views (some of the lines over 1km) and hair raising speed. When you do activities like this people are so happy and it makes for really nice chit chat and comradery - we met a lovely English family with their two young girls who were loving all the adrenaline rushing activities. We got to the Tarzan swing and both Luis and I agreed to go for it. Basically we had a rope attached to our harness and we jumped of a platform and free-fell for a few seconds before the rope took hold and swung us 100m into the air and through the jungle. My stomach jolted, my back cracked and I rushed down and then up up into the sky swinging 4-5 times before getting caught at the bottom by the guides - money well spent. We were all on a super-high from the Tarzan swing and the last activity of the day was the superman line which was over a kilometer long; the harness was out on our backs and we lay face down and soared over the canopy. Unfortunately there was a huge line at the superman tower and after waiting an hour we were all board but when we finally went it was pretty awsome being kilometers up in the air zooming over the Rainforrest canopy looking face down. A short walk back to the park headquarters and it was all over; not bad for $40 and certainly a good way to get the adrenaline rushing. When we got back to the hostel I made some lunch and chatted with my two roommates from Israel and learned a bunch of really interesting things about Israel. The rest of the afternoon and evening I tried to take it easy as my stomach still isn't feeling 100% - the good thing being I have one more day to get over the stomach bug.
