I am Jungle Julie! Living in a basic wooden hut with mesh sides and sleeping on the floor in a mosquito net, no running water and mosquito infested 'toilets', the experience has been rather authentic. Macaques stealing our lunch, water monitor lizards moseying on by at breakfast, holding scorpions before bed, crocs on the boat safari and several different types of Hornbills flying over head, it was all there….but the best, most amazing experience of all was seeing wild orangutans in the jungle. The first pairwas a mother and her baby, still near their nest of the previous night (they build new nests from leaves every evening), gazing down at us and they 'hung out' (groan), the little one with his tufty hair all sticking up seemingly started at such strange creatures below. Amazing. I also saw a young male having a snack and dropping the remnants of his fruit startling close to my head but his place high up in the trees.I sat with him quietly, and we were both lost in our thoughts, him up a tree and me sat on a log. I think he felt I was one of his ginger-haired tribe.
