Its turtle time! Off to 'Turtle Island', a sanctuary for Green and Hawksbill turtles who come to lay their eggs here. Witnessing the Green turtle mother ashore laying her eggs seemed somewhat intrusive, a crowd of 40 people clustered round gazing at her rear end and being marshaled by a guy shouting 'next row move up!' is not my idea of sharing in the miracle of the turtle's life cycle. But the release of the tiny energetic hatchings from the hatchery, the ones in the shade becoming males and the sun becoming females, was wonderful. Tumbling towards the surf, then bobbing around in the sea, it was impossible not to feel a surge of hope for them, despite the tiny success rate of their survival. I wish them all a long a happy life out there in the sea!
